About the Artist
Visual Artist | Sculptor | Ceramicist | Designer | Educator
Chelsea Dubick is a Chicago-based artist whose work spans sculptural and functional ceramic work and paintings in ink, oil and watercolor. Her work reflects a deep fascination with color and the natural world and a strong rejection of thin-centric beauty standards.
Artistic Vision
Chelsea Dubick’s artistic process thrives on exploration and play. Her practice is deeply rooted in material curiosity, allowing each medium—primarily ceramics and painting—to guide her in unexpected directions. No piece is fully planned from the start. Chelsea’s approach is fluid and responsive, letting each decision build on the last through an organic, meandering evolution. Her deep interest in clouds, water, the natural world and fat, fleshy feminine forms find their way subconsciously into her work. The openness to discovery infuses her pieces with energy, movement and life.
Her creative process is deeply linked to her role as a teacher. For years Chelsea has taught painting and ceramics, focusing on adults who carve out space in their busy lives to nurture an art practice. Teaching should be a two-way dialogue: her students’ questions, interests, and creative breakthroughs shape her classes and her own artistic path. By creating demos that reflect her students’ curiosities and leaning into the “why” behind each technique, Chelsea’s own work finds new directions and fresh perspectives.
For Chelsea, art is a conversation with materials, ideas, and the people she teaches. Each work becomes a record of that dialogue—an unpredictable product of the process.

Background & Education
Chelsea’s creative foundation is built on a rich educational background in the arts and humanities. Her mother Kris started her in art classes at The Living Arts and Science Center in Lexington, KY when she was 4. She held tightly to art throughout school and college. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art and English Literature from Skidmore College, where she honed her skills in both visual and literary storytelling. Her passion for language continued with a Master of Arts in Spanish Linguistics from Middlebury College, further enriching her ability to communicate narratives through visual means.
This blend of artistic and linguistic study informs her approach to art-making, allowing her to explore themes of movement, form, and cultural connection. Her diverse education serves as a lens through which she views her art—every shape, line, and color is deliberate, intentional, and deeply personal.
